How to get to Montenegro?

Entry to Montenegro by car, bus or train is no problem. However, if you arrive from Croatia, there might have long lines at border crossings on the Adriatic Highway for identity checks, especially in July and August.

By plane

Podgorica airport, south of the capital, is the largest and most modern airport in Montenegro. The country’s second largest international airport is in Tivat, a good point of arrival if you are going to the Bay of Kotor or to Budva.

The third airport is actually in Croatia. Dubrovnik airport is only 17 kilometers from the border. It is the closest to Herceg Novi.

United Kingdom & Ireland

Ryanair offers flights between London Stansted Airport and Podgorica, usually with one stopover.

From London Gatwick, there are flights to Tivat and to Dubrovnik daily from March.

There are also flights from Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast and Dublin to Dubrovnik from March/April until September/October.

Germany

There are many flights between the two countries with different airlines, from Berlin as well as from other cities:

From Berlin to Croatia

  • Easyjet to Dubrovnik
  • Eurowings to Dubrovnik
  • Lufthansa to Dubrovnik

From Munich to Croatia

  • Lufthansa to Dubrovnik (year-round)

From Hamburg to Croatia

  • Eurowings to Dubrovnik

The United States & Canada

The best solution is to reach a major European airport with flights to Podgorica, Tivat or Dubrovnik (Croatia).

Belgium & Switzerland

The national airline Swiss International Airlines operates flights between Zurich and Belgrade, from where it is possible to reach Podgorica or Tivat with Air Serbia flights.

Custom formalities

Check that the validity period of your passport is 6 months after your arrival date. Many countries benefit from a visa exemption (notably France, Belgium, the rest of the European Union countries, Switzerland and Canada for a stay of less than 3 months).
